LinkedIn Tips & Tricks

LinkedIn is the largest professional network with millions of professionals. So it is imperative that your profile is professionally updated, especially if you are a job seeker. This article will help you in keeping your LinkedIn attractive.

Search Appearance Feature

LinkedIn has a powerful feature which lot of people are not aware about. “Search Appearance” feature. This is one of the most important feature most of the job seekers miss to notice.

The Search Appearances profile feature displays statistics on how many people found you through a search on LinkedIn. This feature also provides member insights about those who searched for you, such as their companies and job titles, which can be used to surface professional opportunities that are relevant to you.

This gives you an insight whether your profile is getting displayed for recruiters. This will also help you to fine tune your profile using the search keywords. The more the number, more the chances your profile is getting shown as search results.

Here is the LinkedIn checklist.

1. The first thing someone notice in your LinkedIn is your profile picture. Ensure you have a professional profile picture.

2. The second thing (but most important) is your headline. Get rid of your generic tagline (e.g. Looking for job, Software Engineer) and develop a personalized tagline adding your skill set.

3. Location. Lot of people don’t update location. It is imperative to add city and country such as Toronto, Canada if you are searching job in Toronto. Please DO NOT add your address.

4. LinkedIn visibility – Navigate to settings & ensure your profile is searchable & visible to everyone. https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/83/linkedin-public-profile-visibility?lang=en

8. About me section. Please ensure you add details on your achievements and your objective.

9. Work experience. Please add details of your work experience too in 2-3 sentences. DO NOT put fake experience.

10. Certifications. Please add relevant certifications. Please DO NOT add WES credentials as your certification.

11. Endorsements. The top 3 skills will be shown in your LinkedIn profile. So ensure you sort the skills based on roles you apply. You need to ask your colleagues and managers to endorse you on your skills you posses.

12. Recommendation. The recommendation from your previous manager or a colleague makes a big impact while they filter your resume. You need to ask for recommendation with colleagues or managers in the past.

13. Add your volunteer experience. It is always nice to have volunteer experience in your profile.
